The Convenience of Custom Made RFID Wristbands

RFID cards are becoming more popular as a convenient tool to manage security by certain types of businesses. Some of the businesses that often use RFID technology include restaurants, universities, libraries, schools, wholesalers, hotels, night clubs, and retailers. For a long time, these types of companies used RIFD cards, but they found that the cards could easily be lost or stolen. As a solution, many companies are using RFID wristbands, because they are much more convenient and an easy way to keep track of the RFID card.

How Does the RFID Technology Work?

"Radio-Frequency Identification" (RFID) is a system which applies tags or labels to an object that contains the technology. Often, RFID cards are similar in size and shape to a credit card, and there are small transmitter-receivers included within the card. Now, this same technology can be built into a bracelet or wristband.

The radio transmitters within the RFID technology can receive and send information, which means they are built with two-way communication. Additionally, there is a reader (also known as an interrogator), which can send a message to the wristband, and receive the response that is returned.

Within the RFID technology, you will find a few important elements: an antenna that receives and sends the signal, a source for the DC power, a radio frequency based signal that can be programmed, and memory which can store and process information. Within the memory, each wristband can be programmed with unique identifying information, so that each wristband sends a signal to identify it from the other wristbands. When you buy a set of RFID wristbands, they will either be pre-programmed, or some options include a data processor that can be programmed by you.

The RFID wristband transmits a signal that can be picked up by the reader. Typically, this signal is shared when the wristband is within close proximity of the receiver. Information that is shared with the receiver may include the production date, stock number, lot or batch number, the identifying tag, or any other type of information that you would like to program into the RFID card.

Types of RFID Technology

When you are researching RFID wristbands, it is important to understand that there are different types of RFID technology. An active tag uses a battery, and only transmits the signal periodically. A passive tag that is battery-assisted also has a battery, but it remains passive until it is within the vicinity of the reader, which signals the RFID technology to activate. The third option is the cheapest type of RFID technology, which is a passive tag. With the passive RFID technology, there is no battery within the card.

The passive RFID cards can be beneficial for an RFID wristband, because it is small which makes it convenient to include it in a wristband. This type of RFID technology is stronger than the other two types, which might impact interference and radiation exposure, so you should consider your priorities when you are choosing the right RFID technology.

Custom RFID Wristbands

When you are designing your wristbands, you can choose from a variety of options that are available to customise the wristband. For example, you might select colours or printed design elements to match the branding of your company. At the same time, you can have the RFID cards built into the wristband, so that each wristband can be used to identify the person who is wearing the band.
