USB Drives Summary
USB Drives are made up from many components, they use NAND-Type Flash memory to store files, documents pictures, games, movies and music. After taking years of research this NAND memory was finally coupled with a Universal Serial bus or USB interface. USB removable and rewritable, much smaller than a floppy disk (1 to 4 inches or 2.5 to 10 cm), and most USB flash drives weigh less than 25 grams. Storage capacities typically range from 64 MB to 8 GB with steady improvements in size and price per gigabyte.
Some usb drives allow for one million Write and erase cycles!
USB drives offer so many advantages over other portable storage units, specially floppy disk drives they are more compact, operate much faster and are far more reliable due to their lack of moving parts.
More and more PC units are being released without floppy disk drives and more USB ports, this is a sign that floppy disks and other portable storage is becoming extinct. Modern operating systems such as MAC OS and Windows XP and Vista are now being designed to accept USB drives as a plug and play device rather than having driver disks and other junk associated with them.
A USB Drive contains a small printed circuit board protected by a plastic or alloy casing, this is commonly custom printed with a logo, emblem or message to promote ones company or organisation. USB Drives can have a lid or be capless some USB drives are capless but come with an attached swivel fitting to cover the usb jack and prevent dust and other objects getting stuck into the drive internals.
